The Bookshop, Wivenhoe

Diana has always been interested in art and enjoyed visiting galleries and attending talks by contemporary artists as well as studying the history of art.  Before she did her three year degree course at the Chelsea College of Art she completed a two year foundation course at the City Lit, which included modules on sculpture, print-making, and painting.  Her focus now is on being a landscape artist and she paints beautiful landscape paintings from sketches, particularly of the local area including Wivenhoe and surrounding village.

Diana attended Chelsea College of Art

Having completed this course Diana realised she wanted to paint, and focus on landscapes in particular, and submitted a portfolio of work to Chelsea where she was accepted on The Theory and Practice of Fine Art course.  Students were expected to attend weekly lectures, organise regular group exhibitions, present work to their assigned tutor and submit a written thesis at the end of the course.

Her influences include John Constable, one of the most famous Essex artists

Living in Essex near the Dedham Vale, Diana was influenced by the paintings of John Constable including his most famous work The Hay Wain, which was painted near Flatford Mill.  Constable also painted Wivenhoe Park and believed that landscape paintings had the potential to evoke a feeling of relaxation and positivity.

Diana now focuses on landscape paintings of the areas around Wivenhoe

Diana continues to sketch and take photographs of the local area, which are then used to produce landscape paintings that combine both real and the imagined landscapes.
